Repetitive Patterns

"Repetitive patterns. Pulsation. As in minimalism (minimal music). Heartbeat, breath, raindrops, falling snowflakes, waves, tree leaves and grass, insects, people, machines, atoms, molecules, etc. Each one is unique. It is said that no two leaves on a tree are alike. Days, minutes, seconds. Whole tones and semitones, meditation on colours. Look out of focus, more inward than outward." - JG

With small steps, on tiptoes, gracefully, slowly and gently the colours around me dance a minuet. The viewer is invited to follow the slow movement of vibrating colours on the canvas. Different, both contrasting and similar colours overlap, giving birth to new and unique colours and shades, sometimes blending and sometimes moving side by side.
The artwork can be turned upside down and hung in 2 different ways.

I painted it in February, when it was still below zero outside, but the first rays of the sun were already occasionally breaking through the clouds, and you could already feel the coming of spring in the air.
A mesmerising painting in light green tones. The viewer is invited to enjoy the interweaving of a very unique spring light and colour halftones. Soft brush strokes, blurred colour transitions hypnotise, relax and suggest to hear the natural soundscape of early spring.

I love to study light and colors found in nature. Their interaction, different shades of the same color and gradations of light are always inspiring. I love to feel the energy of the contrasts of warm and cool colors and finally their integration and perfect harmony.

The lyrical abstract painting creates a relaxing and calming mood. I used soft brush strokes and delicate halftones of a cool color palette. The repetitive "bubbles", circles and semicircles are in constant motion and peaceful harmony, expanding on the canvas, opening up the viewer's field of vision. This work can be interpreted in many different ways. For me it sounds like piano music.

The circles rotate in endless motion. As in real life, they are not perfect (there are no perfect circles in nature), drawn with brushes and oil paints without a circular or other technology, they are alive. They collide and diverge, some showing themselves, others shyly hiding. Similar, but all different and no two are alike. Some are broken, but still beautiful. Their dance and color combinations reminded me of old movies about the circus.

Since ancient times, a ball, a sphere, an orb has had its own special, symbolic meaning. It's up to the viewer to decide what they see: spheres, toys, perfect or imperfect shapes? Maybe planets or molecules? Symbols? Or perhaps destinies? For me, the shape of a ball has always seemed magically appealing, mesmerizing and soothing.

Vox visibilis. Evening. oil on canvas, 80x90 cm, 2023 Evening. The hustle and bustle of the day flows into the night. Sounds, problems, laughter and arguments, offences, joy and pain subside. And, like a light breeze, hope comes - like a voice I see in the evening colours. It is calming and promising for tomorrow.
The bright colours seem to move, giving way to muted tones. The expressive brushstrokes of the sky are complemented by the soft painting of the earth. Cold and warm, fast and slow, far and near come to mutual understanding, to harmony.

Snow Meditation. Oil on Canvas, 140x110 cm. I am madly in love with snow. Unfortunately, climate change is making winters warmer and there is less and less snow. This painting is a romantic meditation. It's as soft and quiet as falling snow.

Good Morning, oil on canvas, 70x80 cm, 2023. The rays of the rising sun are refracted in the humid morning air and scattered into an endless palette of colours. The colours float freely in space, meeting, creating new shades, as if they were dancing a carefree dance.
I created this painting on an early Sunday morning, so I called it Good Morning. It seems to me that the interplay of colours conveys a purely childlike, joyful mood of anticipation of something wonderful.

Badinerie, oil on canvas, 70x80 cm. When I painted this work, I didn't have in mind J.S. Bach's beautiful masterpiece, the most famous Badinerie in history. I just wanted to paint something light and not too serious. Composition is based on contrasts of bright colours and almost white fog, on the juxtaposition of soft, blurred and clear, playful brushstrokes.

For me painting is like composing music on canvas. The colours and their relationships to each other can be as expressive as the chords and notes in music, and the brushstrokes can reveal a melody and rhythmic pattern. It is important to me to keep the artwork open to interpretation by the viewer so that there is something new to see each time. Just as you listen to music, you hear it differently each time and it is always very personal.

Contrasting bright colours provide the viewer with energy, while delicate atmospheric undertones create a relaxing and soothing mood. Soft strokes and oil paints give the artwork a luxurious look. The painting is open to many interpretations. To someone, the play of colours and lights may remind one of a springtime dawn and the falling petals of a blossoming cherry tree. Some might see themselves on a plane, enjoying the wonderful views through the porthole and listening to the magnificent waltzes of Chopin.
Pauses are intervals of silence in a piece of music. The pause is always sounding. It is music. The music of silence.

Pink Mood. oil on canvas, 90x100 cm, 2020. I wanted to make the pink colour talk. I wanted to explore it, to taste it, to smell it, to know its character, emotions and secret thoughts. I wanted to swim in the sea of pink, to fly in the pink sky.

Dolce e piano. Oil on Canvas, 70x70 cm. Repetitive elements and rhythms are hypnotising, drawing the viewer to enjoy the interplay of lights and halftones, freeing the minds as if in meditation. Soft brushstrokes, blurred colour transitions are hypnotising, relaxing and energising. The painting can be seen as a separate artwork or as part of a cycle (diptych or triptych) of 'Sonata'. The other two parts of the cycle are “Scherzo” and "Allegro ma non troppo".
